Our first red release from the exceptional 2019 vintage.
“Moderately dense Syrah with raspberry, blackberry, cocoa powder, pepper, liquorice and vanilla supported by fine tannins and fruity acidity. Quite a rich, savoury and complex red that has a promising future.”

WINE OF THE WEEK Dunleavy The Grafter Waiheke Island Syrah 2019 (*****, $55) From Te Motu, based at Onetangi, this stylish, youthful red was grown at the eastern end of the island and matured for 10 months in French oak barrels. Full-coloured, with a fresh, spicy bouquet, it is mouthfilling, with strong, ripe blackcurrant, plum and black pepper flavours, savoury notes adding complexity, and refined, supple tannins. Already delicious, it has obvious cellaring potential; best drinking 2023+.
