Bordering the old Waiheke Air Strip this vineyard produces world-class Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot.
Planted when their children were barely walking, John and Paul Dunleavy’s vines have matured over two decades and, like their children, bring their own unique character to this wine.
Aged in barrels for 10 months, but made in a forward, fruit driven style to be enjoyed in youth, The Strip will continue to improve over time with careful cellaring.

Tasting Notes:
Fresh, vibrant red with raspberry, plum, fresh herb and spicy oak flavours. A high-energy, smooth-textured wine that is supported by gently tangy acidity and a backbone of fine, drying tannins. Accessible now but with obvious cellaring potential – Bob Campbell MW

Immediately familiar and inviting bouquet with aromas that remind me of a classic Bordeaux-style with earthy and toasty aromas, dark red fruits and complexity. Dry on the palate with flavours of gunflint and iron, blackberry and dark plum, smoky oak and violet. Firmly texture from fruit and wood tannins, acidity is contrasted by the core of dark berry fruit flavours. Tobacco and baking spice, hay, herb and nut nuances. A lovely wine ready for food and you. Best drinking from 2022 through 2028. Decant for service.

A very hot and dry start to summer allowed great fruit set and early ripening. At this stage quality and volumes were looking strong.
Heavy rains struck during middle-to-late ripening. With fruit being soft and fragile, this caused a large amount of berry splitting and loss of volume.
A warm and dry finish to vintage allowed the uncompromised fruit to show great ripeness and flavour. Although overall volumes were down the quality of fruit received was high and well placed for some excellent wines to be made.
