The flagship wine of our Waiheke Island vineyard, Te Motu is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend with Merlot and Franc, hand harvested from low-yielding vines.
The wine enjoys extended élevage and maturing in premium French oak before beginning a minimum 3 year term resting in bottle. On release, the wine shows elegance, complexity and firm yet supple tannins – the hallmarks of its longevity – and will continue to reward cellaring.

The flagship red, Te Motu 2016, is a distinctly Bordeaux-like, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Full-coloured, mouthfilling and savoury, with blackcurrant, plum, herb and nut flavours, complex and very harmonious, it’s a ‘forward’ vintage of this label, already drinking well.

Gorgeously savoury and complex, the wine shows dried cherry, smoky bacon, bay leaf, cedar and leather notes on the nose. The palate offers elegant mouthfeel and roundness combined with spicy nuances, finishing delicately dry and structured. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Cabernet Franc. At its best: now to 2030.

A cabernet sauvignon dominant blend with merlot and cabernet franc. Elegant, complex red showing the benefit of a little bottle age with plum, dark berry, spicy oak, rhubarb, dried herb, tobacco leaf and spicy oak. Can be appreciated now but shows obvious potential.

An exceptional yet low yielding vintage.
Early and excellent flowering and fruit set was followed by cool conditions over December. This was followed by a long, warm, Indian summer, enabling the fruit to hang out on the vine producing unusually powerful flavour development for an elegantly lean body.
Following our family recipe this flagship blend of our best Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec fruit spent two years of extended élevage in French oak before bottling.
Less than 600 cases were produced from this vintage.
