Father’s Day gift pack

$190.00

The perfect wine match for Father’s day

Named for the head of Te Motu’s founding family, Terry Dunleavy, Kokoro means ‘the patriarch’ in Maori and ‘the heart of things’ in Japanese.

A Merlot dominant blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah, hand-harvested from low-yielding vines, Kokoro is made in a more forward style to accentuate fruit ripeness and texture, this wine can be enjoyed in its youth but has the pedigree to improve for years to come.

This pack contains:

1 bottle of the Kokoro 2019

1 bottle of the Kokoro 2020

Plus a complimentary bottle of Dunleavy –  The Family 2017 Merlot blend.

Kokoro 2019

A merlot-dominant blend with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Moderately dense red with blackberry, blackcurrant/cassis and raspberry fruit flavours together with wood smoke and mixed spice flavours. Good cellaring potential.  Drinking 2023 – 2033

96 Points NZ wine of the week  – Bob Campbell MW

A fresh and vivid red with redcurrant, hibiscus and lemon-rind character. Medium body. Fine tannins. Bright finish. Juicy. Merlot with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink or hold.  93 points  James Suckling

Kokoro 2020

‘A beautifully crafted red with blackcurrant, chocolate and violet aromas and flavors with very fine tannins and just a hint of sandalwood to the fruit at the finish. Medium-bodied with well-integrated tannins. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Drink after 2026, but already gorgeous’.

96 Points – James Suckling

The Family 2017

93/100 – Bob Campbell MW
92/100 – Cameron Douglas MS

“Supple, textural and quite complex red with red berry, dried herb and hazelnut flavours. It has a pleasing texture, with typical Waiheke richness and weight. Very accessible now but should develop well with bottle age.” – Bob Campbell MW

“Quite a captivating bouquet with aromas of plums and blackberry, tobacco, dried herb and baking spices. There’s a primary complexity and charm. On the palate – a medium+ weighted wine with a firm texture from tannins and acidity then contrasted by a core of fruit and flavours of tobacco and herb that reflect the bouquet. Well made and still showing youthful energy – so best enjoyed with food, I suggest cheese. Decant for service with best drinking from today through 2026.” – Cameron Douglas MS
