Te Motu 1994
Te Motu 1994
The flagship wine of the estate, Te Motu is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, hand-harvested from low-yielding vines in the Onetangi Valley.
Only a small number of bottles remain from Te Motu’s second ever vintage, produced during the formative early years of the estate.
The growing season brought challenging spring conditions and naturally tiny yields, resulting in intensely flavoured fruit and a wine that has evolved slowly and gracefully over three decades in bottle.
Today, the 1994 stands as a rare glimpse into the earliest chapter of Te Motu and Waiheke Island’s modern fine wine story.
Tasting Notes
Earthy, savoury and beautifully evolved, with aromas of game, mushroom and forest floor layered alongside dried herbs, cassis and old oak spice. The palate carries notes of leather, vanilla and dark fruit through to a long, gentle finish.
A deeply tertiary and complex mature wine from the early history of the estate.

VINTAGE NOTES
VINTAGE NOTES
Previous season’s stress minimised Spring vigour of fruiting canes which combined with cold wet conditions at flowering to significantly reduce fruit-set and early berry development. Favourable conditions from veraison evenly ripened the low crop of open bunch small berries to intense flavours at maximum sugar levels.
